Both rather controversial and both scored by SW.
We can't complain too much about the scoreline, both keepers had a lot to do and both sides missed a few good chances, but it was a frustrating way to lose a hard fought game on a sluggish surface that didn't suit our passing game. Despite 7 changes from last week's line up, with guests George Frackleton and Tony Dean from the 6s we had a good, well balanced and flexible squad that defended with determination and held its own against their rather accomplished midfield. Our passing game never quite fired and we were a bit narrrow in attack, maybe struggling to get the right weight on our passes. We switched George to the front as the man with pace to exploit the space behind their midfield, and Tom Q to the back to make use of his hitting power, and started to get behind them a few times, Kris giving us the lead chasing down a deflected shot from George after a strong run from midfield. SW quickly reversed that with a field goal and the first of the penalties, but George got us back even before half time.
The second penalty, puzzling after a brilliant sliding block by Tom Q, left us chasing for most of the second half and despite some dynamic work from George, Freddie, Zack and Ian and better use of width, we couldn't convert our opportuniities.
Player of the match goes to Zack for a tireless defensive effort at right mid, with a special mention to Tom Q for a 'no prisoners' display in defence that stayed just the right side of a green card or two.
