After being at risk of relegation 3 weeks ago, Hertford 2s managed to finish the season with 2 consecutive wins to finish 5th in the table, narrowly missing out on 4th spot behind Bishops Stortford.
Hertford went into the final few games of the season knowing that a strong finish could see them slip further down the table into the relegation zone. They faced a strong St Albans team in the penultimate game however their fitness and desire to get a win under their belts for the first time since February.
The final game of the season felt much more relaxed in Southgate as Hertford assumed they were safe from the drop however a strong few words from Captain Marcus at the beginning of the game confirmed that relegation was still done out of the way.
Hertford began strongly against the hosts and took an early lead, which was soon extended to 3-0 however Southgate had their chances.
Southgate pulled a goal back after numerous chances and gradually began to fit themselves into the game. Despite the final 10 minutes being very much a flood of Southgate attacks, Hertford held on for a deserved 4-3 victory.
The win saw them finish 5th in the table and made it very much feel like a successful season!
